The NJ Center for the Healing Arts is celebrating 20 years of caring for mind, body, and spirit. One of the first mental health centers in the country to integrate counseling, complementary medicine, spirituality, and social and cultural events, the center was considered to be on the cutting edge of healthcare when it was established in 1987.
Though the model was new, it was following what research confirmed: People thrive when invited to participate fully in their own health and healing process. They are inspired to share their very personal stories that include challenges and celebrations with respect to faith, hope, love, gratitude, and forgiveness. All of these dimensions of being fully human have a direct impact on health.
Today, the NJ Center for the Healing Arts embraces a health psychology model of practice -- an approach that considers the interactions between biology, psychology and social conditions. In this model, people have choices about obtaining optimal health. The body, mind, emotions, and spirit are respected as interconnected dimensions of the whole being. The focus is on enhancement of health, prevention and treatment of illness, and the application of strategies that promote healthy change.
